Version 2
Version 1
The Inner Core
Designed to be minimally intrusive to the visuals of the piece and give the illusion of a hollow core.
Maintains the alignment of the gears
Open to allow for a motor to power the gears.
The Geared Sphere (Truncated Octahedron)
This uses 8 custom bevel gears, as the dihedral angle (the face-to-face angle) of an octahedron is 109.47° and standard components would not be available.
Designed to allow for snap in components on top, such as the finger extensions.
The Finger Extensions
Extreme extensions of a line drawn from the center of a gear to the center of the tooth of a gear.
Fingers pass each other with about a millimeter or less of clearance between each other, except at the vertical axis crossing.
Removable and modular through snap fit attachments.
